I teach body mechanics and do body work for a living. When buying a DVD or book on movement or soft tissue manipulation technique, I consider it a good purchase to find even a few useful strategies. This 2 disc DVD set contains an abundance of techniques that have immediately influenced the progression of my manipulative work as well as how I get into position. My results using this information have been exhilarating. My clientele literally demands this work. WARNING: this is not a mastery in one watching video. I have been reviewing parts of it every morning for 45 minutes since I bought the DVDs a month ago. Two recalcitrant problem areas that have responded well to this therapy have been the proximal hamstring/ischial tuberosity area & the posterior margin of the greater trochanter area. Yoga For Guys - Fitness, Weight Loss and More
In the East where yoga originated centuries ago, the practice of Yoga is dominated by men. It has been this way from the start. In the west, and particularly in the United States, yoga has gained in popularity mostly among women over the past few decades. I think guys have really missed the boat here.
Even physically active men, those who participate regularly in sports, or maintain serious fitness regimes can benefit from practicing yoga. Although the stereotypical male yogi is thought to be scrawny and weak, I can tell you that these guys are anything but. By contrast, I've seen more than my share of apparently fit gym rats collapse onto the mat in a pool of sweat, unable to complete their first class.
For those who are relatively sedentary and wish to improve their physical conditioning, yoga is a great place to start, especially for we older guys. It is low impact and you can truly progress at your own pace. When practiced with emphasis on correct form and breathing, yoga provides a significantly challenging workout.
As you progress, the almost endless series of poses become more difficult and body weight resistance combined with the effective stretching involved combine to improve the body's overall condition. Yoga can be practiced by beginners using modified poses, basically "cheats" where you don't move entirely into the pose or use props to assist.
The body and mind develop quite quickly to the point where modifications are no longer necessary. Steady improvement on the basic poses lead to more difficult advanced movements. What seems impossible at first is realized within a few short months.
Many guys find Yoga to be a godsend for addressing chronic lower back problems and I count myself among them. My previously frequent lower back outages are a distant memory since beginning my own yoga practice. If fact, it was the desperation of those back problems that lead me to investigate yoga in the first place.
Yoga postures gently strengthen back and abdominal muscles like few other exercise forms can do. These "core" muscles are essential components of the spinal muscular network, which helps maintain proper posture and overall body alignment. Greater strength and flexibility in this area are known to greatly reduce lower back pain. Yoga also assists by helping to decompress the spine.
Another beneficial aspect lies in yoga's ability to reduce stress and improve immune functions. Many experts believe it may lower the chances of heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, asthma and obesity. It is even said to fend off aging altogether.
At the risk of sounding esoteric and metaphysical, there is more to yoga than the physical movements. Proper breathing into the yoga posture, while maintaining form helps to open that area of the body. Exhaling while moving deeper into the pose expels stress and toxins.
While that may sound new-agey, it is actually very old-agey. The effect is very noticeable once you do it and the outcome is a new level of body awareness and mental function that is almost indescribable in words.
Regular yoga practice will provide improvements in flexibility and muscle joint mobility; increased muscle size, strength and tone, improved posture, increases stamina and balance. Yoga is also said to stimulate improvements in the endocrine system, digestion and circulation while encouraging weight loss.
So why not give yoga a try. That is, if you think you're man enough.

How to Choose the Right Yoga Class
People of all ages are realizing that yoga can be beneficial to their lives. Whether you are looking to practice yoga as a primary fitness activity, or you are looking at it to improve your performance in other sports, there is something for everyone. Yoga is a great way to lose weight, stay toned and limber, and relax your body and mind with regular meditation. It is also however, a great way for participants in other sports such as football or wrestling to become more flexible, improve their coordination and balance, and their overall performance. When you are thinking about beginning a yoga practice, there are a few things to consider.
Beginning practitioners should join a class. While you can learn from a DVD in the comfort of your own home, you will be better off learning from a qualified instructor. Getting into yoga positions can be challenging, doing them incorrectly can actually be dangerous. To minimize your risk of injury, you should learn how to properly move into positions and hold them. There are classes for all levels of practitioner and for specific ailments as well. In addition to being excellent for your overall health, certain poses can assist your body in healing from some diseases or conditions. It can ameliorate symptoms for problems such as IBS, Depression, back pain, etc. Finding the right class will get you on the road to feeling better.
When you look for a class, keep a few things in mind. The first is what level you are at. People new to yoga should start with a beginner class. There are different types of yoga as well. Kripalu yoga is good for beginners and those not yet at an advanced level, where as Ashtanga yoga is better for those who have been practicing for awhile and are looking for a challenge. Classes within a school will also vary so once you find a studio you are comfortable with, try a few different classes and instructors to see where you click.
If you have decided to go the class route, there are a few places that you can go for advisement. The best obviously is if you have a friend or coworker who is involved in yoga. They may be able to share their experiences with you and suggest a studio and instructor with whom you would be happy. There are private schools that specialize on yoga, though there are also generally yoga classes at leisure centers, gyms and colleges. Look around and do some investigating to see where you would be most comfortable. The internet is a great resource, as is Yoga Magazine which generally has a section once a year or so, listing different schools throughout the country.

Jacquie Noelle is probably the sexiest Yoga instructor I've ever seen. Her personality makes her workouts some of the most enjoyable yoga workouts I've tried. She is wearing a black outfit while working out. You of course, can wear anything you want to wear. Hint: "Something Sexy" like well, you can decide.
There is one scene that could be considered a short dance. It is not difficult, however it will make you feel very sexy. The bare wood floor and sheer drapes covering the window are the basics of the set. Then, you have some plants and candles, a chair, a water bottle and a towel.
Throughout this workout, the instructor teaches sensual and graceful yoga moves beyond upward or downward dog. Horizon, plank and warrior pose will all be familiar.
You will also learn some essential:
Breathing techniques
Pelvic Stretches
Inner-core strengtheners
Body-enhancement positions
What did I notice after exercising?
1. I caught myself walking in a sexy way through my kitchen. Hey, hey.
2. I felt like I had more energy.
3. I felt that my skin tingled a bit and I felt warm all over. (Probably revitalizing nerve endings and increasing blood circulation)
4. My body loved the stretching and relaxation section at the end of the workout.
5. I felt kinda sexy and the feeling lasted all night and well into the next day.
The exercises in this workout will be very familiar to anyone who has experienced yoga. This is mostly yoga, but there is a small section of modern dance. I did appreciate the attention to some of my more favorite poses although I'm still struggling with "table" pose.

This is the section to watch to understand the "sexual core" exercises.
4. Out-Takes and Bloopers - Explains some of the chemistry going on during the filming of this workout.

I'll Give it the Benefit of The Doubt & Give it a 2 - H. Foster -
I'm an American living in the UK, so to send this back would cost almost as much as it did to buy it. I have not even done this DVD because the sound quality is so poor that unless my TV is up full blast I can't make out what she is saying. If I have it on loud enough to understand her, the music is so loud it's overpowering. I'm giving it a 2 for concept and because since I haven't actually done the exercizes, I will assume some good can come from them. Not recommended.

I saw this DVD in a store, and bought it almost immediately. The minute I popped it in the player, I was disappointed.
It's a very boring DVD. Now, I'm no yoga slouch, but some of the positions were a little difficult - but not so much difficult as tedious. The sound quality was awful - not just difficult to hear, but it fluctuated depending on where she was facing. And, to be honest, I can't even remember if there's music.
I was hoping to unlock bedroomy fun, and was left boredly hitting the fast forward button. If you want to feel sexy, I suggest getting another, slightly more active DVD - like Carmen Elektra's strip tease aerobics. A totally different ball field, but guaranteed to put a little spice in your life.

I don't know why this yoga DVD got such good ratings. The sound quality was so awful, i couldn't hear what she was saying. It seemed like it was filmed in her living room without proper sound equipment or something. Also, definitely not for new yoga users. While Volume 1 is for "beginners", her positioning went excessively fast throughout the workout. It shouldn't be noted as for "beginners" if it's not.
